Vegetation on railway tracks is a considerable risk factor for the ongoing traffic of trains: Due to this fact Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH has been very active in the field of vegetation control over the last 50 years and has specialized in this segment of the market.

The development and registration of appropriate herbicide products are highly labour-intensive and time consuming, hence only a few companies are operating in this field. Our work is done in close coordination with our licensors which means for our customers that the claims of weed control and the observance of strict environmental guidelines are met. Having in mind that only a few institutes for practical testing exist in Germany the availability of GEP-certification for development and registration work provides a great advantage.

To achieve best spraying results Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH has developed its own spraying trains which are engaged exclusively for the treatment of railways. Additionally we use very often the so called “two way vehicles”, which can be used on railway tracks as well as on roads and are very useful for the treatment of areas in railway stations and sideway tracks.

As service provider for the Deutsche Bahn, private railway companies and large industries Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH in cooperation with the subsidiary J. M. Lauff GmbH is the market leader in Germany.

For more than 15 years Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH is specialized in moveable and mechanical grove cutting on railways. Growing branches and knobs of groves and trees along the railway tracks present a potential risk for the train traffic. This kind of cutting and cleaning will only be done during the fall and winter season. We hereby employ large sized choppers, mulch diggers and so called Loctrac-vehicles with special wood cutting equipment.
