The commencement of business activities by Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH can be even traced back to 1815. In view of the changing markets worldwide the organisation and structure were brought into line accordingly. The following changes took place in the last years:

• In 1999 both C. F. Spiess & Sohn GmbH, Kleinkarlbach and Urania
  Chemicals GmbH, Hamburg merged into the new Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH. 
  
• 2002 Mitsui & Co., Ltd (Japan) took over 80 % of the shares.
  
• Further in 2004 Mitsui & Co., Ltd obtained the remaining 20 %, being now the sole shareholder.

Spiess-Urania Chemicals as subsidiary of an internationally established trading group focuses continually on the lines of crop protection and industrial chemicals.
